    DBT THERAPY

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is a cognitive-behavioural approach designed to help individuals manage intense emotions and improve interpersonal relationships. Developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan, DBT combines traditional cognitive-behavioural techniques with mindfulness strategies, emphasizing the balance between accepting oneself and striving for change. The therapy is structured around four key modules: mindfulness,

distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. Mindfulness helps clients become more aware and accepting of their present moment experiences. Distress tolerance focuses on building resilience to cope with crisis situations without resorting to maladaptive behaviors. Emotion regulation aids in identifying and managing intense emotions, while interpersonal effectiveness teaches skills for improving communication and relationships. DBT is particularly effective for individuals with borderline personality disorder but has also been adapted for various other mental health issues.
